00L-3 Cincinnati Electronics is a world leader in providing high intensity
radiated field (HIRF) and aircraft attenuation test services. HIRF
testing is a form of radiated susceptibility testing
which is required in the certification of flight essential avionics systems.
The primary attributes of HIRF, with respect to this type of testing, are elevated
test levels and pulsed modulation requirements. The HIRF testing intent is to
simulate high RF peak pulsed and average field environments typical of radar
installations.
00Frequencies from 10kHz to 40GHz are offered with continuous
scan capability. L-3 CE's downloadable data sheets provide the typical HIRF pulsed
and average levels; additional duty cycles may be available on request. A system
must not exhibit degraded performance or sustain damage when subjected to HIRF
fields while operational to be considered compliant with the certification requirements.
00L-3 Cincinnati Electronics test facilities also
provide
aircraft
and
engine nacelle attenuation testing services. The attenuation measurements are
performed to quantify the bench HIRF environment. The attenuation of the nacelle
or aircraft measured is subtracted from the external HIRF environment to determine
bench test levels.
